In Northern Ireland Simple Faith have been flying the flag for Southern gospel for 10 years and recently picked up three awards at the Northern Ireland Gospel Music Awards. Their sound is delightfully old school with no hint of Gaither-style easy listening embellishments allowing the rich harmonies to stand out and whether it's the jolly knee-slapper "Some Glad Day" complete with some deft harmonica interjections or the devotional ballad "Calvary's Hill" the blend of voices is strong and true. There are some original songs too, the country-style title track, penned by Melody Goodman, being a charming tribute to a miracle working God. Almost as good is Melody's "Meet Him Here", a moving testimony-in-song. If you're a Southern gospel devotee and haven't yet realised that these veteran harmonisers from Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle are every bit as good as their American counterparts, you need to investigate.
